Acheh Kelong

I had been traveled to Acheh Kelong 15 times , started from year 2005 to 2013.

The reasons why I went there so many times as follow:
  1.  Enjoyed gathered with friends  and relatives.
  2.  I like the sea breeze and the natural, saw birds flying, sunset, sunrise... Sometimes the kelong is so quieted during non-peak season,  I sat on the chair enjoyed that moment.
  3. Morning shower with the sun shine can made me feel very fresh and gave me positive thought. I always went to one of the toilet in the morning that I know can enjoy 日光浴。
  4. I sabiki jig, aim for Kunning,.
  5. Reading.
Below are my memories,  stayed at Acheh Kelong,  to share with all my relatives, friends and you.

Year 2005

30 July to 1 August 2005, this is my first time went to Acheh Kelong, this trip was organised by Peter Tan. We took two vans from Singapore to Penyabong Mersing.

After that, the same year from 18 to 20 December 2005, we went again with Peter Tan, but this time was a small group. December is the moon soon period, when we arrived, the sea was different on our last trip. The sea described as "Teh Tarik" by Peter Tan, we all laughed!

Luckily we still had a good catch that time.

That was my catch!

Year 2006

We went two times on year 2006, 17 to 19 Sept 2006 with Marcus and his wife, after that, we went with Kenny and Eng Seng from 25 to 27 Nov 2006.

Look at our catch! The fishes were on the newspaper. We caught a lot of rabbit fish. His figure slightly poked by the rabbit fish when removed the hook accidentally, very painful, he quickly squeezed out the blood immediately, applied medicine (青草油)and continue fishing.

Year 2008

We went two times on year 2008 from 19 to 22 April 2008 and from 21 to 23 July 2008. This time, we caught a 5kg big queen fish. I heard a boatman told about queen fish, its body looked like five figures prints, these prints are belong to one of the Chinese god, therefore, these fish usually Chinese don't eat them. In Singapore,  we went  Changi offshore,  we caught a lot of Queue fish and all gave to Malay, they all very happy. The biggest I caught was 7 kg queen fish during offshore, very good fight, that was  happened twenty years ago, taken Ah Chiang's boat. We usually booked his boat.

My hubby knew from Goggle, queen fish in Australia is their good table dish! So, we decided to try this fish we caught from Kelong. He filleted it, removed the skin (Do not eat the skin, because poisonous). Then, I deep fried it. Wow! The taste was really good, like Mackerel!

Although it is delicious, when it is caught, we either release or give it to Malay. In my mind, I always recalled the boatman told me about that story.

In Malaysia, they use this fish to made salted fish..We saw at Kelong, they hang up for sun.

This trip, we caught at lot of squids, not cuttlefish. Squids taste nicely than cuttlefish, cuttlefish meat is harder. The squid body slimmer than cuttlefish. Cuttlefish in Hokkien we called “青眼”。

Kelong always got high chance to catch long toms. Of course, you need the skill to catch them. We use the float, hook the small live fish, cast to the sea, not to hard, otherwise, the bait drop easily, action must be fast to keep the live fish alive. Long tom doesn't eat weak live fish.

On the surface of the sea, you able to see long tom chasing your bait, this is the time and the skill to fight with the long tom once got hook. Once it caught, if you don't want to eat it, release it as soon as possible. Long tom not like grouper, it dead very fast when landed.

I ate long tom once, its bone is greenish color. Up to date, I never eat this fish again.

Year 2010

This year, I went with some new members. The regular member, Kenny, join us several times, he is a cheerful person.  From 27 to 29 March 2010,  Irwin first time joined us, after that followed by Boon and Kee first time joined us from from 24 to 27 July 2010.

Year 2010, July was Malaysia durians season, on our way to jetty, we saw the roadside stall selling durians. We enjoyed eating durians because cheap and delicious.

You won't get hungry at Kelong, they provide 5 meals, include breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and supper.

Look at the meals, big steam fish, sotong, eggs, chicken....We can request some more rice and dishes from the cook if still available. I like the deep fried sotong rings, I always asked for more.

Year 2011

Year 2011, I went Acheh Kelong twice. From 23 to 26 April 11 was went with Irwin's friends. Another trip was went with Terance's friends on 27 Aug 11, I don't know why this trip I only have two photos? Hence, I only can share the pictures on the April.

My first time met with Irwin's friends, they are easy going and friendly. I enjoyed this trip with them very much. The nice group photo, that was taken during sun set, the sun directed shined on us, look at our smiling faced, deep memories on that moment...
